"If you’re familiar with Buckfastleigh and the surrounding area, one of the first things that probably springs to mind in Buckfast Abbey and of course, the famous Buckfast Tonic Wine.Buckfast Abbey was founded in 1018 during the reign of King Canute and in 1147 it was rebuilt in stone and became a Cistercian abbey. Between 1536 and 1541 the dissolution of the monasteries took place in England under the order of King Henry VIII and sadly during 1539, it was Buckfast Abbey’s turn. The abbey then stood in ruins for over 200 years and was used as a quarry and even the site of a Gothic mansion."
"Working Benedictine monastery reknowned for producing Buckfast Tonic Wine. The abbey was established in 1018 and rebuilt in 1882. Website contains extensive information on monks and abbey."
"A post shared by 🐶📚👩🏻💼 (@samxherb) on Sep 2, 2018 at 12:03pm PDT. For all the animal lovers, we had to include Pennywell Farm in our top ten insta-worthy spots in the area. Just south of Buckfastleigh, this popular family attraction is a sure hit if you want to cuddle adorable piglets and get up close and personal with an array of enchanting animals."
"Once you’ve spotted some of the wildlife on the moorland pay a visit to Pennywell Farm where you get up close with a number of farm animals. It’s a great day out for all the family. Climb all over the tractors, help with feeding time of the sheep and goats and cuddle up with their famous miniature pigs."
"An award-winning craft studio set within a historic manor house country park, Cockington is one of Torquay’s top family attractions just one mile from the seafront, easily reached by a regular bus service from the harbour. The attraction has over 20 craft studios within the historic manor house, a tearooms, art gallery and outside a beautiful walled art garden, a Tudor rose garden and a very popular kid’s play area."
"Entering the village is like stepping through the Wardrobe in one of CS Lewis’ stories. A short drive from urban Torquay you find thatched roof cottages, a forge and windmill surrounded by a extensive country park. There’s also craft studios, a tea room and gardens at Cockington Court, the old manor house."
"Not so much a pub, more a museum with beer," is how its owners describe the Bridge. It has been in landlady Caroline Cheffers-Heard's family since 1897, and, in many ways, little has changed over time. Beer is still gravity-dispensed from the barrel (from £2.80), mobile phones are discouraged ("The Bridge is a place of conversation between people and not machines", reads a sign) and its rooms are decorated with the sort of antique bric-a-brac - grandfather clocks, mounted butterflies, rifles, tattered union flag bunting – that might have once cluttered up a Victorian gentlemen's club."
"has been run by the same family since 1897, offering a service that has changed little since then. This makes the Bridge Inn a refreshing change from the droves of identikit chain pubs that surround it in Britain. Serving lunchtime food only, they offer a selection of authentic British pub fare with their immensely popular ever-changing cask ales."
"14 Century Award Winning Country Pub on the doorstep of Torbay, serving great beer and fantastic food. Beautiful Beer Garden. Village road, Marldon, TQ3 1SL"
