Where to eat in Nottingham before you die
"Even if you’ve not noticed Pieminister’s chain of restaurants popping up on high streets across the country you might still be familiar with their pies (most UK supermarkets sell them). The restaurants stock the same pies you’ll see in the shops alongside a few you won’t, all served up with your choice of sides from mash (standard) through to sweet potato fries, macaroni cheese, and pigs in blankets (and not just at Christmas!). The menu’s cheap as it is (a pie and one side will set you back £7.50) but during lunch (Monday to Friday until 4) a pie and a side is just £6.50."
"After the success of Kevin (allegedly Kevin Keegan is Cockney rhyming slang for vegan), filled with mushroom, tomato, red wine and thyme, comes Chooks Away, a vegan take on a classic chicken pie with tofu and seitan chicken in a smoked garlic and sherry sauce - perfect with the plant-based loaded fries with vegan cheese and caramelised onions. Alternatively, the new vegan Mother Earth will have even the most committed carnivores begging for a slice of vegan action. Accompany a vegan pie with champ mash, garden peas, and a parsnip and kale fritter."
"This is one of Chesterfield's favourite cafés and whether you are looking for a casual coffee stop, a hearty English breakfast, a scrumptious smoothie or a healthy burger, Qoozies is the place to be!. There are so many treats to be sampled in this fun establishment."
"For those seeking a healthier snack in Chesterfield, Qoozies is an obvious choice. The cafe on Vicar Lane which prides itself on health and well being, specialises in freshly made smoothies, burgers and sandwiches."
"Ilam Church, Staffordshire, is the burial place of St Bertram and a place of pilgrimage. A lovely church with some Saxon parts. Close to Ilam Hall, once home of the Watts Russell and Port families."
"Located in 820 acres of breath-taking historic parkland is the stately mansion of Kedleston Hall near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. The estate has been owned by the Curzon family since the 13th century. The present 18th-century mansion is one of the best examples of the work of famous architect Robert Adam, with its Marble Hall and grand state rooms."
"It’s tasty, it’s speedy and it’s pulling into a bistro in Sherwood. Le Mistral’s new express lunch menu, launched on September 6, is a tribute to a train. Le Mistral, an express train that travelled between Paris and Marseilles in the 1950s, had the distinction of being the world’s fastest scheduled train."
